Flu vaccination is safe and effective. It's offered every year through the NHS to help protect people at risk of getting seriously ill from flu. We offer the free NHS flu jabs to eligible patients as well as private flu vaccines.

Why get a flu jab?
Flu is a contagious viral disease that can spread by coughing, sneezing or touching contaminated surfaces or people. Stay healthy and protect your friends, family and work colleagues by getting vaccinated. Last year community pharmacies administered over 1 million flu jabs in the uk. One of our pharmacists will carry out a consultation to ensure that the flu jab is safe and appropriate for you. you may ask any questions that you might have about flu vaccinations during this consultation.
Free nhs flu jabs
Flu can be serious in some patient groups as it can lead to further complications. The NHS free flu jab service provides free flu vaccination to these specific patient groups. We at Highgate Pharmacy may be able to offer you free NHS flu vaccinations if you fall under one or more of the following patient groups:
- under 50 years in clinical risk groups
- pregnant women
- those aged 50 years and over
- those in long-stay residential care homes
- carers
- close contacts of immunocompromised individuals
- frontline health and social care staff employed by:
- registered residential care or nursing home
- registered domiciliary care provider
-a voluntary managed hospice provider
-Direct Payment (personal budgets) and/or Personal Health Budgets, such as Personal Assistants.
Private flu jab
Our pharmacy offers a private flu vaccination service. You will be able to protect yourself and your loved ones with the private flu jab services if you don’t qualify for the free nhs flu jab services. Our private flu jab service is very competitively priced.
Flu vaccine side effects
Serious side effects of the injected flu vaccine are very rare. You may have a mild fever and aching muscles for a couple of days after having the vaccine, and your arm may be a bit sore where you were injected.
Side effects of the nasal spray vaccine may commonly include a runny or blocked nose, headache, tiredness and some loss of appetite.

When to have a flu vaccine
The best time to have a flu vaccine is in the autumn, from the beginning of October to end of November, but don't worry if you've missed it, you can have the vaccine later in winter. Ask in-store today.

Most adults can have the injected flu vaccine, but you should avoid it if you have had a serious allergic reaction to a flu vaccine in the past.
